How long does Chicago take to fix things?
Days from a 311 request to its close, for five kinds of repairs, across Chicago's 77 community areas. Duplicates, city-logged work, cancellations, and closures within an hour are removed first (cleaning rules).
This year is not over. Requests that are still open have no close date, so this year's medians will rise.

What the data shows
From the analysis notebook, data through September 28, 2026.
- Potholes depend on where you live. In 2025 the 8 slowest community areas, on the West and Northwest Sides, waited a median of 43 days for a pothole request to close, vs 12 days in the rest of the city (3.6x). The same areas were slower in every year since 2019.
- Pothole waits rose 79% in 2025 citywide, to a median of 13.5 days.
- Street-light requests close 11.5x faster than in 2019: a median of 2.4 days in 2025, down from 27.6.
- Lower-income areas do not wait longer for any of the five services. Rat complaints close faster there.
- Cleaning matters. Keeping the city's own logged work would make 2024-25 pothole waits look 43% shorter.
